As we gather with our families and loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving, it gives me an opportunity to share how grateful I am to be your State Senator and to be back in the District full-time after a busy legislative session. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to spend more time with the residents of the Thirty-Fourth District and to witness first-hand how giving and dedicated many of you are to the well-being of our communities.
Earlier this year, I was touched by the support received for the launch of “Kind California,” a campaign which seeks to encourage random acts of kindness among our residents. To kick-off this campaign, over 150 volunteers gathered at the OC Food Bank to pack approximately 40,000 pounds of food that served more than 2,000 seniors.
In this same spirit, the community came together in June to help the Santa Ana based non-profit, Grandma’s House of Hope, following the theft of 1,500 pounds of food. Thanks to the generosity of various local businesses, the food destined for children, who live in motels and rely on free school lunch, was replenished.
And most recently, with the Thanksgiving holiday upon us, I was proud to join local non-profits and agencies in distributing hundreds of turkeys so that all families can participate in the tradition of gathering to give thanks.
Time and time again, I am overwhelmed by our community’s willingness to take an active role in making their neighborhoods and cities a better place for all. For your generosity, I thank you and invite you to share the acts of kindness you perform or witness at: www.facebook.com/kindcalifornia. Together, I am confident that we will continue to make California a kinder place!
From my family to yours, I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving!
