As we kickoff this 4th of July weekend, I invite you to join me in celebrating the birthday of our great nation in a safe and responsible manner. In this spirit, cities throughout the 34th District will be hosting events where residents can come together to celebrate in a family-friendly environment. For those looking for a place to commemorate our nation's independence, below is a list of events in the 34th District:
Parade: The 112th annual procession down Pacific Coast Highway and up Main Street will feature marching bands, vintage cars, parade floats, horses, performers, celebrity guests and more. This year’s Grand Marshalls are Mickey and Minnie Mouse from Disneyland, another 34th Senate District institution. The parade runs from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, and is free. Lake Park bleacher seats are $15 pre-sale, $20 day of parade.

Pier Plaza festival: This annual event will begin at 10 a.m. and feature entertainment, vendors, family-friendly activities, radio station KRTH-101, and more at the Huntington Beach Pier. A fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m. and is free. VIP seating on the pier is $10.
Surf City Run: A popular 5-k run from Worthy Park. 1900 Main St., to the ocean and back starts with registration at 6 a.m. The cost ranges from $20 for kids in advance to $40 for adults the day of the race. Information: surfcityrun.com
Pancake breakfast: Sponsored by Kiwanis, the breakfast will run from 7:00 am -11:00 a.m. The address is Lake Park, 1035 11th Street, Huntington Beach and the cost for breakfast is $5.
Fireworks celebration: Visit the Joint Force Training Base (JFTB) for an evening of entertainment, children’s activities, vendors, food court and fireworks. The festivities are presented in cooperation with the cities of Cypress and Seal Beach, begins at 4 p.m. Fireworks at 9 p.m. Parking $5. 11200 Lexington Drive. 714-229-6700 or cityoflosalamitos.org
City of Orange
Third of July Celebration: Enjoy the city of Orange’s 21st annual early event at Fred Kelly Stadium at El Modena High School. The event will feature games, entertainment, performance of patriotic music from the Orange Community Master Chorale and a fireworks show. 4-9 p.m. July 3. $7. Patriotic entertainment: Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets and enjoy a family-friendly evening of patriotic entertainment at Centennial Park. Festivities will include live music, food, face painting, kids zone, a cannon exhibition, recognition of our Armed Forces and more.
